Pallet sizes
The most common pallet sizes in European road freight, and how many of each fit on the floor of a standard 13.6 m trailer.
| Pallet | Size (cm) | Floor area | Per 13.6 m trailer, one layer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Euro pallet (EPAL 1) | 120 × 80 | 0.96 m² | 33 |
| Industrial / block pallet | 120 × 100 | 1.20 m² | 26 |
| Half pallet (display pallet) | 80 × 60 | 0.48 m² | 68 |
| Quarter pallet | 60 × 40 | 0.24 m² | 136 |
| North American (GMA) | 121.9 × 101.6 | 1.24 m² | 26 |
Counts assume an internal floor of 13.60 × 2.45 m, no stacking and pallets that do not overhang. Real numbers can be lower if the load overhangs the pallet or the trailer is narrower.
Euro pallet (120 × 80 cm)
The Euro pallet is the standard pallet in continental Europe. It is 120 cm long, 80 cm wide and about 14.4 cm high, and an empty wooden one weighs roughly 25 kg. On a 13.6 m trailer, three Euro pallets fit side by side when loaded with the long side along the trailer (3 × 80 = 240 cm), which gives 11 rows and 33 pallets in one layer.
A Euro pallet in good condition is generally rated for about 1,500 kg of evenly spread load. Concentrated or uneven loads reduce what it can safely carry.
Industrial pallet (120 × 100 cm)
The wider industrial pallet is common in chemicals, beverages and in the UK. Two fit across the trailer with the 120 cm side across (2 × 120 = 240 cm), giving 13 rows and 26 pallets.
Half and quarter pallets
Half pallets (80 × 60 cm) and quarter pallets (60 × 40 cm) are used for retail displays and smaller shipments. They are easy to mix with Euro pallets because their sizes divide evenly into 120 × 80 cm: two half pallets or four quarter pallets take the space of one Euro pallet.
Plan a mixed load
Real loads are rarely one pallet type. Paste your own list of dimensions and weights into the load planner to see a top view and check whether it fits.
